One book on each side of the story, although not necessarily on opposite sides of the same argument. I feel strongly that you need to hear all sides of a debate in order to have a clear understanding of your own position and reasons for holding that position.
Richard Dawkins is a way-out-there guy. Sometimes when I read people, like him, who is so entirely opposite of my views, I have to stop reading because their views make me so angry. And they tend to solidify my own views without seriously considering theirs. But go for it. We do need to broaden our views.
