Leviticus

I wonder how body conscious the priest were. It sounds like they may have eaten alot of offerings.

It is equally curious as to how they treated famine. It sounds like if certain criteria were not met, the offering wasn't allowed to be eaten, if it wasn't eaten it went to waste. I think we waste alot in our society, but back then it should have been a crime to waste prepared food. On second thought if it was food prepared for sacrifice for sins or fellowship offering was that ok?

  1. I was thinking less about their waistlines and more about what I would assume would be a massive workload. Seems like they would be cutting up and burning animals and bread 24/7 - 24/6 anyway (no working on the Sabbath). The Israelites were 1 million strong coming out of Egypt. With that many people there would have to be at least several sacrifices and offering daily, and only a handful of priest-types to handle it. Seems like a logistical nightmare...

  2. And one time there was a massive celebration maybe sometime in Kings or Samuel where David successfully routed the Philistines. Anyway they sacrificed 500 bulls. Can you imagine the work involved and the blood flowing and the smell? They must have been really used to such worship. It just doesn't fit into our culture or their culture now. When I was working in the Jewish Day School in Atlanta, one of the Jews told me that it would be all symbolic now. No one would want to revise that practice now, but to fulfill Revelation, it may have to be so. Well, time will tell. Many interesting things to think about...
